MANILA, Philippines (AP) — Officers say eight Filipino fishermen are lifeless and 5 others are lacking after a minimum of 5 suspected pirates boarded a fishing boat in southern Philippine waters and strafed the crew.
Coast Guard Lt. Commander Alvin Dagalea stated Tuesday that two fishermen survived Monday night time’s assault off the coast close to Zamboanga metropolis in Mindanao province by leaping into the water because the gunmen began capturing. The 2 swam towards a close-by island and have been rescued by a passing motorboat.
Dagalea, commander of Zamboanga’s coast guard station, says vessels are looking for the lacking fishermen and can tow their boat to its homeport. He says the id of the attackers is unknown.
