Richard Adeniyi Biography
Otunba Richard Adeniyi Adebayo was born in Lagos, Nigeria, on February 4th, 1958 to Major General Robert Adeyinka Adebayo. Adebayo was the first civilian governor of Ekiti State between May 29th, 1999, and May 29th, 2003. His father once served as the Military Governor of the then Western Region.
Education
Between 1962 and 1968, Niyi Adebayor attended Corona School Yaba before proceeding to University of Lagos Staff School in 1968 for his primary education. He obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1969. In 1969, Niyi Adebayo proceeded to C.M.S Grammar School, Bariga, Lagos where he obtained his O’Level certificate in 1974. Between 1975 and 1977, he studied at Davies Tutors, Hove, Sussex, England.
Although from Iyin Ekiti in Irepodun/Ifelodun local government area of Ekiti State. He attended the University of Lagos in 1997 where he studied Law and obtained LL.B Hons in 1981. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1982
Business
His capacities as a lawyer has gained over 40 years experience. He has a wide experience ranges from legal and advisory work, project finance, oil and gas, contract procurement and business facilitation.
Politics
In 1999, Niyi Adebayo ran for the office of Ekiti State Governor under the platform of Alliance for Democracy (AD) and emerged the first executive governor of Ekiti State from May 1999 to May 29, 2003. He however lost his second term bid to Ayodele Fayose of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He is currently a top chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, he was an interim Vice Chairman South West and Deputy Chairman (South) of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Niyi Adebayo was appointed the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment by President Buhari in November 2019.
