Tony Umez was born in the 60’s in Ogidi, Anambra State. Anambra State is a state in the South Eastern part of Nigeria. He was born precisely on 23rd August, 1964.
Tony’s mother is from Cross River State while his father is a native of Ogidi, Anambra State.
Although Tony is originally from Anambra state, he grew up in Lagos. Therein, he had his elementary and secondary education. Expectedly, he obtained both his First School Leaving Certificate and West African Senior Certificate thereafter.
Later, Tony got admitted into the prestigious University of Lagos. Therein, he studied and obtained two different degrees – a degree in English Language and Master’s Degree in International Law and Diplomacy.
Career
Being a go-getter and a goal-oriented young adult, Tony Umez pursued a career in the movie industry (Nollywood) after he couldn’t secure a job for himself. Ordinarily, he was supposed to work with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs but no, there were no jobs.
Tony joined the movie industry in 1993 to make ends meet. It wasn’t all smooth and simple as you might have imagined. It is, in fact, a huge task to act in a movie, but it wasn’t that hard for Tony because of obvious reasons.
Yes, please. Tony performed in stage drama and plays while he was in Secondary school. Now, Tony never knew he was preparing himself for the future while he performed these plays and drama.
Sadly enough, Tony left the movie industry after playing his first two roles – his first two movies. He left the movie industry for few years because he got nothing; not even a dime to complement his skill.
Tony returned in 1997. Then, he was opportuned to feature in more movies. In 1997, he starred in “The Princess,” #themovie and then the Nollywood blockbuster movie “Died Wretched,” released in 1998. Plainly, he rose to prominence following his expertise in explaining his character in this movie.
