Early Life and Education
Michelle Kamene Goro was born on March 24, 1992, in Nairobi, Kenya. She attended Rusinga International School. She wanted to be a journalist, but her parents did not like that. Kamene joined the University of Nairobi where she studied Law.
Career
Michelle Kamene started trying for a screen test on TV in her third year at the University of Nairobi when she got a chance. She started at Prime Time as a news anchor and reporter at the age of 21, working for a fast-growing media station—Ebru TV.
She resigned from the TV station in September 2015 but later rejoined the company in 2017 with the role of head of news. Kamene left the station again in late 2017. She hosted shows like Just the Facts, The Weekly Report, and Africa in Brief before she left the station finally.
Kamene moved to the radio station and started with NRG Radio, where she hosted a breakfast show, with Andrew Kibe. On June 14th, 2019, both of them moved to Kiss 100. Kibe later resigned and was replaced by Jalang’o. They currently host the breakfast show together.
Michelle Kamene Goro worked as a paralegal at Simani & Co. Advocates from February 2013 to July 2013 before joining the media.
Controversy
Michelle Kamene is one of the most controversial media personalities in Kenya. In July 2019, Miss Goro and her co-host Andrew Kibe made headlines when both of them left NRG (Energy) Radio at the same time to join Kiss 100. They were sued by their former employer over a non-compete clause in their contracts.
They paid their ex-employer three months’ salary in lieu of issuing a notice after the two resigned from NRG Radio. According to the NRG application statement to the court, the period of three months was reasonable to restrain their former employees considering the substantial investment that had been made in them.
While this was going on, she took to social media to highlight her challenges.
She wrote I have been taken to court. It is now public knowledge that an injunction has been slapped on me. I’m not supposed to go on air, so what guys? How am I supposed to work? Where do I earn my living? My career, my future…
They were assisted by the CEO of Radio Africa, Patrick Quarcoo, to get back on the air and continue with their careers.
Personal Life
Kamene got married to a Tanzanian-based South African tycoon, but the marriage didn’t last long before they separated. She has not made it public that she is in another relationship after her breakup with her South African boyfriend.
She has kept her family private even with all the controversy. Kamene loves to spend time on tour.
