Favour Chukwuka Ofili is a track and field athlete from Nigeria who specialises in the 200- and 400-meter sprints. She won the 400-meter silver medal at the 2019 African Games. In the 200 and 400 metres, she is also the 2019 African Youth Champion. Early Life and Education
Favour Ofili was born on December 31st, 2002, in Delta State, Nigeria. She had her primary and secondary school education in Delta State, Nigeria, before leaving for the United States of America on a scholarship to Louisiana State University, where she competes for the school athletics team.
Career
Favour Ofili competed in the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 m relays for her nation at the 2019 World Relays in Yokohama at the age of just 16. She won both the 200 and 400-metre races, earning her the title of female athlete of the competition at the 2019 African U18 and U20 Athletics Championships. In each of her events, she achieved personal best timings.
At the 2019 Nigerian Championships, she came in second place behind Patience George and raced the 400 m in under 52 seconds for the first time. She beat this time at the African Games, coming in second with a personal best of 51.68 seconds, and earned a spot in Doha, Qatar, the venue of the 2019 IAAF World Championships. In the women’s 4 x 400 m relay at the African Games, she helped the Nigerian team—Kemi Francis, Patience George, Blessing Oladoye, and Favour Ofili—earn a gold medal. The young athlete was awarded a second senior medal as a result.
She is a competitor at Louisiana State University right now, where she held the NCAA collegiate record for the 200m with a time of 21.96 until Abby Steiner beat it with a time of 21.80 at the NCAA Championships.
